Sunny Perth

The gateway to the west coast of AustraliaSunny Perth

Australia’s metropolis, Perth, is a dream! The lively and vibrant city is regularly voted among the world’s top 10 most livable cities and offers everything your heart desires.

The Mediterranean and sunny climate make Perth, Australia’s sunniest city with 3000 hours of sunshine per year, a popular travel destination all year round. Even the winter months are usually short and mild. In my article today, I’ll show you the most beautiful corners of this charming city. Let’s go!

How to get to Perth

Perth lies between the Swan River and one of the largest inner city parks in the world, Kings Park. There are many ways to get there; the airport network is well-developed and serves many international flights. Are you already in Australia? Then, you can take the train or a domestic flight to the West Coast. The legendary Indian Pacific, the longest straight railway line in the world, connects the Pacific with the Indian Ocean. It runs 4,352 kilometres through the Australian desert and steppe until it reaches its destination in Perth after 69 hours. The route is iconic and world-famous. A more luxurious way to travel is on a cruise ship that regularly calls at the port of Fremantle, a charming part of Perth, in the summer.Kings Park

How to get there:

  • Bus: can only be booked as an adventure tour, e.g. Adelaide – Perth
  • Train routes: e.g. from Sydney or Adelaide to Perth
  • Flight: from several German airports with one stopover
  • Cruise: the right offer from Captain Cruise

A special attitude to life

Perth’s people enjoy life in this colourful and charismatic city. Countless cozy cafes invite you to linger, and hip and trendy clubs create the right atmosphere in the evening. Socializing is very important here, and Perth is regularly on the top 10 list of the world’s most attractive, liveable, and friendliest cities.Twilight Hawkers Market

My tip: Use the free CAT buses to get from A to B in the city.

Australians love good coffee and feasting, evident from the many street food offerings. In the summer, you can pamper your taste buds at the Twilight Hawkers Market every Friday between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The locals like to stop by here to meet up with friends in a relaxed atmosphere and ring in the weekend with live music. Around 40 different, colourful market stalls offer delicacies from a total of 30 countries – an exciting culinary journey around the world!

Powdered sugar beaches in Perth

In addition to lots of sun and good food, the numerous white sandy beaches in Perth also ensure a good mood and relaxation. Although Perth is a really big city with around two million inhabitants, many beaches can be reached in around 15 minutes. There are public toilets and showers on many beaches, and you can also use the BBQ grills that are located at many of the popular picnic spots for free. You can also see that conviviality and community play a big role in Australia. If the day at the beach is slowly ending, but you don’t want to leave the beautiful scenery just yet, treat yourself to a cool drink in one of the surrounding restaurants and cafés and watch the sun go down. It seems as if it is gently sinking into the sea – a wonderful sight!

Good mood and relaxation in FremantleFremantle Market

During your stay in Perth, you should visit the Fremantle district. Locals affectionately call the charming place “Freo” and like to come here to enjoy the weekend in a relaxed atmosphere. The centuries-old Fremantle Market opens its doors here at the weekend, and it is worth a visit! On the Cappuccino Strip in the centre of Freo, you will find numerous cafés and restaurants. In addition, the many street musicians put a smile on the faces of passers-by and create an atmospheric ambience. In the evenings, holidaymakers can often be found in the local brewery Little Creatures, which is loved beyond the borders for its distinctive and refreshingly bitter beer. Next to the brewery, you will find the associated restaurant with an open kitchen, stylish atmosphere and a spectacular view of Freo’s harbour.

Rottnest Island – the home of animal photo stars

Rottnest IslandThe beautiful Rottnest Island is just 19 kilometres from Fremantle and is easily accessible by ferry. Turquoise bays, fine sandy beaches and a picture-perfect backdrop await you. Rottnest Island is a popular destination for escaping everyday life and taking a short vacation. Although the island is no longer an insider tip and is quite well developed for tourism, cars are not allowed here. The island is a true natural paradise and offers a home to many animals and plants that should be preserved.

Among the residents are the cute quokka, the smallest kangaroo species in the world, and a real photo hero. For tourists, a photo with the cute fluffy ball has long been a regular part of the program. The best way to explore is to hop on a bike; you can find rental stations right at the harbour. Are you a real water rat? Then grab a mask and snorkel and dive into the colourful underwater world. Or rent a surfboard and try to catch the best waves. Surf spots like Strickland or Salmon Bay are particularly suitable for this. Rottnest Island is an absolute must-do when you are in Perth; here, you can unwind!

Pure nature in Kings Park

Kings Park in PerthThe gigantic park stretches over 400 hectares right next to Perth city centre and is a popular meeting place for young and old. Signposted paths lead you through the green park landscape, where you can learn more about Australia’s nature and history. The views you can enjoy from here are also impressive. As Kings Park is located on a hill, you look directly at the city centre of the colourful metropolis. A view that is particularly impressive in the evening! In summer, part of the park becomes an open-air cinema, and the latest films are shown at sunset. You can sink into one of the comfortable beanbags and enjoy a chilled drink from the bar. You should reserve tickets early enough, as the offer is very popular.

The gateway to the unforgettable West Coast

As a big city, Perth offers everything your heart desires and much more! Perth is also the right place for those wanting to embark on an adventure along the west coast. The city is considered the gateway to the west coast, and most tours along the 12,000-kilometer coastline start from here. Many of you probably already know the top destinations on the East Coast, such as the sights of Sydney or Byron Bay in Australia, but the West is still relatively unknown to many. However, it is here that you can experience the best Australian adventures and discover unknown beaches and national parks. I have compiled a short list of my favourite spots on the West Coast for you.

My top 5 on the West Coast:

  • Monkey Mia: Feeding the dolphins
  • Exmouth and Coral Bay: Swimming with whale sharks
  • Broome: Riding camels into the sunset
  • Karijini National Park: Spectacular scenery with deep stone gorges
  • Lucky Bay: White & deserted dream beach with kangaroos
